Local Teacher Honored

About 150 patrons and friends attended the surprise reception at the high school for Miss Emma Benson, a retiring teacher 42 years of service in school work. Twenty -seven were spent in the borough schools. A purse of $150 in gold was presented by her pastor, Rev. D.L. Shaffer. A black and gold banner with her named the number of years was made by the freshman girls and given earlier that week.

While loading a railroad car in the Hollidaysburg shops. Charles Reighard of Bakers Summit was struck and killed by a shifting train.He left a bride of a few months and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Reighard.

The first 10 day of May were designated as borough clean-up week. Property owners and renters failing to get rid of ashes and old tin cans were to be responsible to the borough for removal costs.

After a few weeks of slack work the book factory in Roaring Spring went on full time.
