Cove Republican Club Launches Web Site, Seeks New Members

The Morrisons Cove Republican Club has established a Web site in an attempt to build membership and improve communication.

“Our goals are communication with people who want to be part of the Cove Republican Club,” said President Denny Kelly. “It’s an easier way to communicate and get news out.”

The site is at www.covegop.com and offers links to the club’s membership application form, an email list sign-up, a calendar of events and the official Web sites of local elected officials.

“With the links to local politicians, if someone wants to communicate, it’s an easy way to communicate with our elected politicians and with the Republican Club,” Kelly said.

Kelly, who is serving a one-year term as club president, said one of his main goals is to increase membership in the club, which stands at about 150.

“I’m hoping it leads to increased membership and momentum,” he said.

The site was designed and built by Steve Clark Advertising Marketing and Public Relations of Altoona, a firm that  often provides political campaign planning and strategy for local Republican candidates for elected office.

Clark said that although the site is functional, there’s more work to be done and it will probably remain a work in progress.

“There's still a number of additions that I want to make. I want to have it be interactive for the membership,” Clark said, “but right now it also works for people who just want to check in and see what the Morrisons Cove Republican Club is up to.”

Clark said the club contacted him to set the site up in February and he was able to have the basic site up in time for the group’s March meeting.

Despite the rush order, some things fell right in line,

“We were happy to get domain name covegop.com,” Clark said. “It’s simple and it was available. That made us happy.”

Clark said the site and the features that come with it should allow the club to communicate at less cost than traditional mailing.

“We’re also working on a way for the club to communicate with members and non members alike,” he said. “Those interested can be contacted by e-mail. It gets expensive to send out letters and cards frequently. Mailings or news can be sent via e-mail at much less cost.”

Membership in the club is $8 a year. Kelly said those interested in “free enterprise and less government intrusion” are welcome to join.

The club’s next meeting is  at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, March 4, at the Spring House Grille in Roaring Spring.
