On March 23, Circle K Gifts of Main Street, Woodbury, held its first craft show. Twenty-three vendors participated in the craft show. Althea Kelly, an artist from Woodbury, offered hand-sewn flags featuring John Deere and other brands. She also sells potholders. Althea said that she has been doing this for 20 years. On April 2, the monthly meeting of the South Woodbury Township Board of Supervisors meeting took place at the township building at 9 a.m. The township office will be closed on April 22-26 for vacation. Boy Scout Troop 358 held a fundraising event at the Martinsburg Fire Hall on Saturday, March 23. Pancakes, sausage, juice, coffee were provided for a donation. Troop members were eager to talk and serve folks who came to enjoy this breakfast and support the cause. The boys helped serve and clean up while socializing with the attendees. Teeter said that event insurance is hard to get because of the many different events, but also because there are many protocols that must be in place. A well-known and loved Cove restaurant closed its doors forever on Jan. 21. What was known for 44 years as the Creekside Inn was originally called Bull Snyders and The Red Lantern. Original Creekside owners Nancy and Ron Brumbaugh purchased the property near East Freedom at 3059 Everett Road in 1980 and Nancy renamed it the Creekside Inn. A larger-than-last-year’s spectacular light show took place at the Southern Cove Power Reunion’s grounds in New Enterprise this December. More than 30 light displays were placed by area businesses, FFA chapters, and friends of SCPR. Ballots were given and folks were asked to vote for their favorite display. The Polar Express, a 4D movie experience, was held on Saturday, Dec. 7 to Dec. 9 at the Bistro Restaurant in Martinsburg. This has not been done for three years. The price remained the same and the actors, dancers, and elves were extraordinary. On Dec. 2 and 3, a Christmas Craft Festival was held in St. Johns United Church of Christ Hall in Bedford. There were more than 40 vendors. The craft show had vendors from different places, including New Enterprise and Everett. On Nov. 16, the Northern Bedford FFA Chapter hosted a pig roast at Northern Bedford High School at 7 p.m. Hundreds of folks come out for this event held each year by FFA. On Nov. 11, Royal Rangers of Everett completed a service project for Freedom House Ministries. It was built in 1788 and has the original front of the Tavern Springs Seasonal Resort. Freedom House Ministries is a 12-month, four-phase residential program for men with drug and alcohol addiction. On Saturday, Nov. 18, Deb Mellott, Jeff Mellott and Beverly Ritchey were busy making Christmas wreaths of various sizes and swags. The Benefit Auction was held on Sept. 7 at the Morrison Cove Produce Auction. The auction committee met and analyzed the auction results. This year the auction succeeded in increasing its goal. Total raised was $181,000, which is around $16,000 more than last year. On Friday evening of the auction, 800 rib dinners were made. This will remain the same amount for next year’s auction. The Bedford County Correctional Facility held its second annual “Day of Responsibility” on Oct. 13, 2023.
