    Timothy James has been appointed to the Freedom Township Board of Supervisors, filling the seat left vacant by the December death of Daniel "Butch" Giarth. James, a deputy fire chief with the Freedom Township Volunteer Fire Company, was appointed to the seat for the remainder of 2021.   • Bedford County Completes First Phase of Broadband Connectivity Improvement

    The Bedford County Commissioners have announced the completion of the first phase in expanding high-speed broadband throughout Bedford County that was completed on Dec. 23, 2020. Funding was made available under the Federal CARES Act to allow local governments the ability to provide avenues for residents to access reliable Internet service. Broadband expansion is Bedford County's number-one priority, as described in their Regional Comprehensive Plan that was adopted in 2017.   • Greenfield Township Considers Basketball Court Fencing

    Greenfield Township Board of Supervisors discussed the possibility of installing a fence around the basketball court at the Claysburg Area Community Park during their Feb. 2 meeting. Basketballs sometimes bounce away from the court and end up on a nearby roadway, creating a safety issue. Installing fencing of up to 10 feet high could resolve the concern.     A newly constructed apartment owned by Dylan Baker of Williamsburg was the subject of discussion during the Williamsburg Municipal Authority’s regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 2. The apartment is behind a property owned by Baker. Questions arose about a multi-use connection and whether to charge a tap fee.
