  • It's Time To Obey The Ten Commandments

    Jul 23, 2020

My brother and I knew Mom had had quite enough when she threatened to pound sand up our butts. The warning sufficed and she never had to carry through. I wish that someone in authority would tell the looters and rioters and even the numbskulls blocking traffic that is exactly what will happen if they don't start acting like normal human beings. Idiots with a college degree protesting confederate actions from 160 years ago are knocking over statues of people who helped the North. They don't even...

In particular, I noted that blaming is characteristically a part of the responses to a pandemic – certainly something that has occurred over the last four...

    RICHARD TATE, Correspondent|Jul 23, 2020

To hunt turkeys the way I do, I must be in good physical condition. At 70 it has become increasingly difficult to remain in the type of condition I need to be in so that I can pursue wild turkeys over several miles of difficult ground during an autumn day of hunting. When the Y was still able to host morning basketball for players 60 and over, I got a good workout two days a week while trying to chase other players around the court. The ageless Galen Bickel from Altoona really forced me to work...

This past spring when we hired professionals to cut down some of our dying trees, we also asked them about the mammoth maple tree that towers over our patio. Although my husband had trimmed a lot of dead and dying limbs off, he was worried that we should cut it down completely, lest in some future storm, it would crash on our living room roof. "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life." ~Proverbs 13:12 (CJB) This has been a year of hope deferred. There were no goodbyes and no funerals allowed. Every shred of light that was shining its way to us was shut off. All this deferral of hope, week after week,...
