  • The Origins of Caroling

    Dec 19, 2019

The festive nature of the holiday season makes it an ideal time to sing, especially in groups. Perhaps it's no surprise then that caroling, a tradition that dates back many centuries, ultimately collided with Christmas. Caroling and Christmas caroling are two different things. • Old Oder Mennonite Memoirs

    Roseann Zimmerman, Correspondent|Dec 19, 2019

"At Christmas I no more desire a rose, Than wish a snow in May's newfangled shows, But like of each thing that in season grows," wrote William Shakespeare long ago. I "like of each thing that in season grows," too, although I'm not sure what is growing in season right now. Our outside world is gray and brown since all our leaves have died. The flowerbeds look like a dark-scabbed wound in our yard without flowers but beside my garden nook, three perennial ferns still wave their green fronds....

    PASTOR LEE SEESE, Correspondent|Dec 19, 2019

I am not one of those parents. For years proud parents have sent out Christmas letters (or posts) with updates on their family and all the accomplishments of their children. My sons are fine young men, but I know better than to brag about them. So I won't mention that my oldest son was one of the stars of his high school musical. Why would I even state that my younger son is one of the best players on his basketball team? Maybe I am a little like one of those parents. Imagine what Jesus'...
