Ground Broken On Solar Array At Bedford County Jail

State and county leaders broke ground Wednesday, Dec. 12, on a 1.7-megawatt solar array on the grounds adjacent to the Bedford County Jail.

The solar array, set to be completed in the spring 2019, will help power the jail, courthouse and library.

The 1.7-megawatt photovoltaic system will produce more than 2.1 million kilowatt-hours of energy a year. One kilowatt-hour is the consumption of 1,000 watts for one hour.

Bedford County Commissioner Josh Lang said bringing solar energy to Bedford County took teamwork between the county and state.
