CHS Wrestlers Falls to Panthers

It was a busy opening week for the Central High wrestling team as they competed in two matches as well as the Panther Holiday Classic at Mount Aloysius College.

On Dec. 11, the Dragons traveled to Penns Valley and were handed a 59-12 defeat by the Rams. Three of Central’s wrestlers registered victories. Alex Bowman (113) won by technical fall 15-0, while teammate Brandon Holsinger (132) dominated 13-2. Logan Marko (152) pulled out a tough 5-4 decision.

NBC 48, CHS 33

On Dec. 13, Central hosted Northern Bedford and came up short 48-33. The competition was dominated by falls as NBC registered seven pins and the Dragons three.

Recording falls for the Black Panthers were Alex Fouse (17 seconds at 182), Luke Welsh (11 seconds at 195), Jay Ebersole (220), Kyle Guyer (285), Ian Sherlock (138), Brady Clark (152) and Austin Mowry (170). Lucas Heck won by forfeit at 126 pounds.

Alex Bowman (16 seconds at 113 pounds), Ian Couch (70 seconds at 120) and Tanner Hall (89 seconds at 145) all registered falls for Central while Logan Marko had a 4-2 decision at 160 pounds. Both Jaxon Matthews (106) and Mason Daniels (132) received forfeit victories.

Penn Cambria Classic

The weekend competition was fierce at the Penn Cambria Classic on Dec. 14-15, and a number of Dragons were able to register wins. Logan Marko set the pace as he took 6th place overall, winning four of his seven bouts.

Alex Bowman won three of his five matches – two by fall. Ian Couch won his opening two matches before losing a pair. Jacob Detwiler, Michael Fowkes, Tanner Hall, Brandon Holsinger and Lane Kocher each had a win among their three bouts.

“We jumped right into tough competition this week,” Central coach Dave Marko said. “Both Penns Valley and Northern have nice teams and the tournament was loaded with teams of high caliber.

“We had a few guys perform well but it’s early and we’re young and inexperienced at a number of weights, so it will take a while to get them to where we hope to be.”
