Farm Show Seeks Tractor Entries

Antique farm equipment enthusiasts can showcase agriculture’s historic role in inspiring Pennsylvania’s story by bringing their vintage iron to the 103rd Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg next month.

“With your help, thousands of Farm Show visitors can get a close look at the equipment that worked the land of Penn’s Woods and helped to feed a growing world,” said Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding. “You can inspire them as together we write the next chapter of Pennsylvania’s story.”

The antique tractor and engine exhibit – the 13th year for the display – will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, inside the heated and ventilated Equine Arena.

Registrations are due by Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019. Space is limited to 100 entries, selected on a first-come, first-served basis.

Entries are open to any restored antique wheel and crawler tractors built before 1975, original tractors in good condition, restored antique farm trucks, and stationary gas engines. All tractor operators must be at least 16 years of age. Entry and parking is free for all exhibitors. Call (717) 738-2573 to register.

Additional events during the exhibition include a pedal tractor pull for children weighing 40-90 pounds at 12:30 p.m. and an antique tractor pull for stock gas tractors (no diesels), from 4 p.m.-9 p.m.

Pennsylvania FFA chapters that participated in the Antique Tractor Restoration will be recognized in an awards ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 13 on the Lancaster Farming stage in the Expo Hall. Those FFA chapters can compete in the antique tractor pull with their tractors.

The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the nation’s largest indoor agricultural event, featuring 12,000 competitive exhibits, more than 5,200 of which are animal competitions, plus 300 commercial exhibitors. The show runs Jan. 5 to 12, 2019.

Admission is free but there is a fee for parking in Farm Show lots. The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center is easily accessible from Interstates 81 and 83.
