Meat Canning Project Set for Feb. 11-14

January 10, 2019

On February 11-14, 2019, we will be holding our 45th annual Central Pennsylvania Meat Canning Project at the East Derry Fire Co., located at 1800 Glenwood Ave., 2.2 miles north on Route 522 from the 322 and 522 interchange in Lewistown, Pa. To date, with your support, we have canned 688,854 cans of product. We will again be canning turkey.

After the meat is canned, 90 percent of our meat goes to the Mennonite Central Committee’s warehouse for shipment to relief efforts thought out the world. The association keeps 10 percent of the cans here in the Central Pennsylvania for our area needy. This meat is distributed in March to agencies in the central Pennsylvania area, which is spread through the counties of Mifflin, Juniata, Centre, Huntingdon and Blair.

We will be canning from 7 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., then cleanup. Groups are encouraged to schedule times, but walk-ins are always welcome and needed. To schedule a group, please call Ben Stoltzfus, (814) 625-2430, and Jonathon Coldren, (717) 250-6840. We are nonprofit, and all help is volunteers.

For the last 44 years, you have blessed us with your support for this project. The world is such a dark place for so many people. We again ask you to bring God’s light into the darkness, and help feed God’s sheep. We presently have less than half of the monies needed to can this year. Monetary donations should be sent to: the Central Pa World Hunger Assoc., PO Box 76, Belleville, PA 17004.

If you or your church, business or organization would also like to donate food stuffs to help feed the workers at the site, please contact Teresa Cunningham at (717) 543-6026.
