CHS Tops Tussey; Raises Record to 8-1

The Central Dragons improved their record to a stellar 8-1 with a solid non-league win over Tussey Mountain at Penn State Altoona on Jan. 2.

The Dragons returned to Mountain League action on Jan. 9 with a trip to Philipsburg-Osceola followed by a trek to Clearfield on Jan. 11.

Central hopes to play its first game in the school’s renovated gymnasium the following Tuesday, Jan. 15, against Tyrone.

Against Tussey Mountain, the Dragons took a 12-10 first quarter lead and led 28-20 at intermission. Central’s Braden Kitt scored 11 of his team-high 18 points in the first half while Thad Albright and Hunter Klotz added six each.

The Titans cut the deficit to six points (43-37) entering the final quarter, but the Dragons prevailed 57-44.

Klotz finished with 13 points, while Albright added nine and Noah Muthler eight. Klotz paced the team with nine rebounds, while Kitt added seven. Muthler dished out six assists, and Albright was credited with five steals.

“It’s great to be 8-1, but we need to clean up some areas before we get back into league action,” Central coach Reggie Nevins said. “We have a tough stretch of games over the next few weeks. The guys have found ways to win and have played their best in the final quarters but we need more consistency throughout the game.

“Tussey shot the ball well and actually beat us on the boards overall. This has rarely happened to us.”
