Northern Bedford Boys Falter In Loss at Tussey

Northern Bedford played some of its best basketball of the year but unfortunately it was only for a half last Friday night, Jan. 4, at Tussey Mountain in boys’ action.

A big second half elevated Tussey to a 77-48 Inter-County Conference South win.

The Panthers came out strong and traded leads early with the Titans before TM took a 15-14 lead after one period. Tussey went on a big run early in the second period, but two Caleb Diehl treys cut the lead to 29-23 midway through the second.

Down 40-31 at the half, Northern Bedford again whittled the lead to six at 42-36 halfway through the third period before the roof caved in on the Panthers.

Tussey went on a 16-0 run over a five-minute stretch that gave it a 58-36 lead a minute into the fourth period and ended all hopes for a Northern Bedford upset on the road.

“We played well in the first half and in particular our offensive execution was the best it’s been,” Northern Bedford coach Shawn Hicks said. “Not being able to finish layups and easy shots in the paint along with committing too many turnovers was our undoing.”

The Panthers, now 0-8, were led by Diehl’s 17 points and Dalton Smith’s 12 points

Franklin Foor poured in 17 points to lead the junior varsity Panthers to a 52-36 win.
