Scams have been around for a very long time. As a kid, I remember some strange men wearing suits arriving at the farm on a summer evening.
They came with an offer to paint our barn for free. They assured my family that it was for advertising, and we had only to pay a minimal fee. My dad had gone to school with the former Judge VanHorn and they had remained friends.
“So,” he said, “just leave the paperwork and I will check it out with my attorney.”
We never heard back.
