Northern Bedford’s girls’ basketball team came out of halftime in a flurry on Monday night, Jan. 14, in a home game against Fannett-Metal.
The Lady Panthers had not played well in the first half and trailed 26-13 at the half.
“The girls knew I was upset with our play and they were upset with their play. I’m really pleased with the way we responded,” NB coach Jon Ewart said.
Cam Pressel sparked the comeback with her ability to find open teammates and score two field goals herself in the third period. Maddie Cottle and Denae Hershberger chipped in with 3-pointers. Ariel Reed gave NB a one-point lead on a free throw late in the third period at 32-31. After F-M retook the lead, Cottle swished another trey to give NB a 35-34 lead early in the fourth period.
The NB offense fizzled after the early fourth-quarter lead and the visiting Lady Tigers went on a 9-0 run to distance themselves from NB.
“We got stale on offense for a couple minutes and lost the momentum we had gathered,” Ewart said.
NB couldn’t get any closer than five points down the stretch and F-M did enough damage at the free throw line to hold onto a 49-43 victory.
NB, now 1-10 overall, was led by Reed’s 12-point effort.
The Lady Panthers won the junior varsity game, 38-31. Makayla Kochara had 16 for NB.
