Tigers Tame Dragons

The Central Dragon boys’ basketball team was able to play just one of its three scheduled games last week and fell short in a non-league match-up with neighboring Hollidaysburg on Jan. 21. The loss dropped the Dragons’ record to 11-3 on the season.

Hollidaysburg 54, CHS 43

Central started strong, taking a 12-8 advantage after the opening quarter. Braden Kitt scored seven early points to spark the offense. The Tigers exploded for 24 second-quarter points and took a 32-24 advantage into halftime. Noah Muthler was responsible for nine of the Dragons’ 12 points in the frame.

Central regrouped after intermission, cutting the deficit to 32-31 but trailed 42-33 after the third quarter. Hollidaysburg withstood the later pressure and escaped with a 54-43 victory.

Kitt finished with a team-high 16 points and grabbed four rebounds. Muthler had five rebounds and added six assists. Freshman Tyrelle Rolle came off the bench late and scored seven points for the Dragons, and sophomore Hunter Klotz finished with five points and five rebounds.

“It was a rough week with the weather which will force us to play three games each week,” Central coach Reggie Nevins said. “We didn’t play that poorly against Hollidaysburg but they really out-executed us and dominated the boards in the first half. Actually, we shot about 45 percent and only had eight turnovers but they shot lights out including 9-of-18 from long range. We have three tough games this week starting with undefeated Huntingdon but all the games from here on will be competitive.”
