CHS Girls Win 2 of 3

The Central Lady Dragon Basketball team raised its record to 9-11 as it won two of its three home games last week.

The Lady Dragons defeated Johnstown in a non-league game while splitting a pair of Mountain Conference games.

CHS 46, Johnstown 41

It took an extra four minutes of play for the Lady Dragons to defeat Johnstown 46-41. Central led 11-10 after one quarter but trailed 25-24 at intermission. The Dragons took a two-point advantage into the final frame, but the visitors tied the score after four quarters. A 9-4 edge in overtime sealed the victory.

Madison Eicher paced the offense with 13 points, which included three shots from long range, and was followed by Bailey Heuston with 12. Kylie Metzger chipped in nine points and Jaida Oakes six.

CHS 43, Clearfield 32

Clearfield visited Central next and jumped ahead 9-1 after the opening quarter. The lead swelled to 21-10 by intermission. After some halftime adjustments it was all Lady Dragons in the second half as they won the third quarter 17-6 and the fourth 16-5, setting the final score at 43-32.

Maddi Metzler scored 14 points, including 6-of-8 from the line, while Kylie Metzger added 11 points. Bailey Heuston chipped in with eight points and Madison Eicher hit two 3-point shots.

Tyrone 45, CHS 27

On Friday, Feb. 8, Tyrone (15-5) visited the Lady Dragons and won 45-27. Tyrone’s defense was able to hold the Dragons to single digits in each quarter. Tyrone also had a huge 10-0 advantage in 3-point baskets.

Kylie Metzger scored 11 points for the Lady Dragons and Maddi Metzler added seven.

“It was a good week, winning two of three,” CHS coach Rob Mock said. “The girls fought hard to pull out the game against Johnstown and after a rough first half they played great against Clearfield. Tyrone is tough and we had trouble getting our offense started.”
