Jared Scarbro attempts the "Happy Gilmore" hockey-themed putt putt hole at the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library. Good thing the hole is Par 4, as his first stroke is in the stacks.

Local families combined two favorite hobbies – golf and reading – to raise money for the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library (HAPL).

Carol Scarbro of Duncansville was at the library on a cold, snowy January Saturday afternoon to operate and talk about the "Families Fore! The Hollidaysburg Public Library" indoor golf event.

This first event was organized by Friends of the HAPL to raise general operating funds with six different putt putt golf holes. Each hole was designed by a different club or organization. The "Eiffel Tower" hole was created and built by the Hollidaysburg High School French Club. The Allegheny Essential Oils Club, Hollidaysburg High Golf Team, the Scarbro family and Tumble Bus also each created putt putt holes.

For those with a passion for hockey, there was the "Happy Gilmore" hole. A hockey stick is the recommended choice for putting. In fact, players take a 2-stroke penalty on a par 4 hole if the hockey stick is not used.

Top scorers each of the three days received a prize. Golfers voted for their favorite hole.

The indoor golf event raised more than $200 for the library.

The Meadows donated golf clubs and balls.
