Storm Hurts Fruit Crops

The Cove area was hit by a severe late March snowstorm, causing damage to the fruit crops that were beginning to blossom. The snow, accompanied by extreme cold temperatures, was reported to have covered the entire country east of the Rocky Mountains and south to Florida and the Gulf states. As milder weather returned, flooding also was a concern in some areas.

Spring term at the Martinsburg Normal School was to begin May 7. The courses to be offered included Latin, psychology, algebra and other advanced subjects. The cost of tuition for the eight-week term was $6. E...
