CHS Senior Qualifies for All-State Band

 

Katie Ponder, a senior at Central High School, Martinsburg, will play the clarinet in Saturday's Pennsylvania Music Educators Association's All-State Concert Band concert in Pittsburgh.

Katie Ponder, a senior at Central High School, Martinsburg, will make her first appearance at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association's All-State Concert Band concert on Saturday, April 6, in Pittsburgh.

Ponder, the daughter of Jim and Lisa Ponder of Roaring Spring, will play the clarinet during the band performance, scheduled for 10 a.m. at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center (Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom).

The conductor for Saturday's performance will be Travis Cross, composer, conductor, arranger and chair​,​ UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, Los Angeles.

Ponder had made it as far as regionals the past several years before qualifying for the all-state band concert this year.

Members of the all-state band will rehearse today and tomorrow, April 4-5, at Mars High School, Butler County.

The group will attend a concert by the Pittsburgh Symphony at 7:30 p.m. today at Heinz Hall and a performance by the U.S. Navy Band and Sea Chanters at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the convention center.

Harold Delozier is Central High School's music teacher.
