The Blair County Tea Party will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Tea Party movement at noon on Tax Day, April 15, at the Blair County Courthouse, Hollidaysburg.
Featured speakers will include Art Halvorson, Blair County Sheriff Jim Ott and former State Rep. John McGinnis.
Speakers will cover both the successes of the Tea Party and threats for the future, including calls for bigger government, new proposals attacking gun freedom and lack of action on securing the border.
Tea Party Patriots President Jenny Beth Martin wrote in a Fox News opinion piece about the growth of the Tea Party 10 years ago.
“The movement grew quickly, as more and more Americans came to understand the truism that Washington’s solution – regardless of the underlying problem – is always more, and larger government,” she said.
While most protesters and lobbyists come to the nation's capital asking for special favors, Martin said the Tea Party was different.
“We came to Washington with the opposite request, asking for less – less government, less federal intrusion in our lives, less government interference in the free market,” Martin said.
This event is free and open to the public.
