RUTH ANNA YOUNG

Ruth Anna Young, 95, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019, at Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home.

Friends will be received from 1 until the 2 p.m. funeral today, Thursday, April 4, at Carlisle First Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Marla Abe officiating.

Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.

Ruth was born on Jan. 29, 1924, in Curryville, to the late W. Nelson and Rosa (Replogle) Bush and was the widow of Paul R. Young.

Ruth is survived by two daughters, Linda R. Young (husband Capt. John Pitman, USNR RET) and Rita L. Young, both of Carlisle; one son, Paul R. Young (companion Robin Pomeroy) of Carlisle; one grandson, Aaron C. McManus of Sterling, Virginia; three great-grandchildren: Lauren and Allie McManus of Sterling, Virginia, and Ahlora Pomeroy of Carlisle; and her beloved cat, Cinders.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by 11 siblings: Orpha Mae Baker, Charles E. Bush, William Floyd Bush, Jennie Rosella Brumbaugh, Warren R. Bush, Nancy Bush, the Rev. Orville Clyde Bush, Leonard R. Bush, Margaret R. Stiffler, Verna Blattenberger and John Harold Bush; and one stepdaughter, Caroline E. Young Brown.

Ruth was a lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren. She was a devoted member of the church where she was part of the Sonbeams and Alpha Bible study groups and the Birthday Girls.

Ruth was dedicated to reading her Bible every morning and evening.

She enjoyed crocheting, playing softball, walking and especially her grandson and great-granddaughters.

She was formerly employed by GC Murphy's Department Store, Carlisle Shoe Factory, Piezo Crystal, McCoy Electronics and later retired as a hair stylist from Designs by Linda. She was a licensed beautician for 71 years.
