C-K Defeats West Branch in 5


The Claysburg-Kimmel High School baseball team opened its 2018 campaign on March 26 with a 10-0, five-inning victory over visiting West Branch.

The Bulldogs scored four runs in each of the first two innings then closed the game with two in the bottom of the fifth.

Lucas Mock had three hits and scored twice for C-K. Teammates Dominic Francona had two hits and Corey Chamberlain doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice. Kyle Glass also scored twice in the victory.

Chamberlain earned the victory on the mound. He tossed three innings in which he allowed three hits, struck out three and walked one. Glass threw two innings and allowed one hit, struck out two and walked one.

Mt. Union 5, C-K 1

Host Mount Union allowed an early run before scoring five unanswered in a 5-1 victory over C-K (1-1) on March 28.

C-K’s Corey Chamberlain doubled home Connor Oakes in the top of the third to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The Trojans then scored once in the home half of the frame, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Oakes had two of C-K’s eight hits – both of which were doubles. Canaan Burket also had a double in the loss.

Chamberlain, who suffered the loss, pitched five innings. He allowed seven hits an struck out two. Hayden Ickes allowed two hits and walked two in one inning of work.
