Lady Dragons Split Road Trip

The Central Lady Dragon softball team opened the 2019 season with a pair of long Mountain League road trips last week. After defeating Penns Valley, the Dragons fell short against Bald Eagle Area.

CHS 7, Penns Valley 6

Central jumped ahead against the Lady Rams with three first-inning runs and led 5-0 entering the bottom of the fourth. Penns Valley scored four times in the frame and took the lead 6-5 with another pair of runs in the fifth.

In their final at-bat, the Lady Dragons scored twice to steal the win. Dylan Claycomb highlighted the inning with her second homer of the game to give Central the winning margin.

Claycomb also took the win on the mound as she allowed nine hits and struck out seven. Cam Feathers also registered three hits, including a triple, while Ashley Negley, Taylor Stock and Kara Stultz added singles.

BEA 7, CHS 5

On March 29, at Wingate, Bald Eagle Area jumped ahead 5-0 after two frames before the Lady Dragons began chipping away at the lead. Central scored in each of its final four at-bats but came up short 7-5.

Dylan Claycomb again powered the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while teammate Maddi Metzler doubled, singled and also drove home a pair of runs. Cam Feathers and Ashley Negley had two singles apiece. Freshman Madison Daugherty took the loss on the mound as she struck out one batter and walked three.

“We hung in both games and had a chance to register two tough road victories,” Central coach Jonathan Burkett said. “Dylan had a clutch homer against PV and we had our chanced against BEA. I like what I saw out of the girls and we’ll continue improving as the season continues.”
