Local Home from France

Herald of April 11, 1919

Homer N. Ake, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Ake, who reside north of Martinsburg, arrived home Saturday night from over sea service. He is the first young man from here to arrive home, who passed through the hard service along the whole battle front in the closing months of the great conflict which raged for four years. A companion, Harry Blyler, of Hollidaysburg, who was with Mr. Ake during the service over there, also returned home Saturday night. These two young men were gunners in the 37th division, known as the Buckeye division, and were in the service the greater part of the year.

Women’s Day will be observed in the Mt. Pleasant Reformed church, Millerstown. All members and friends are urged to be present.

Martinsburg is in need of a good blacksmith. Any one equipped with a blacksmith outfit or thinking of starting in business will find this place a good location. A good building is available.

Flower seeds should be selected without delay and sweet corn is going fast.
