Bulldogs Rally Past JV in Classic

The Claysburg-Kimmel baseball team improved to 3-3 overall after splitting four games during the past week.

C-K 15, Portage 5

The Bulldogs scored five runs in the first and sixth innings and ripped 17 base hits en route to a 15-5, six-inning victory over visiting Portage on April 1.

Dominic Francona had a big day at the plate for C-K, ripping three doubles among his four hits, driving in five runs and scoring three times. R.J. Helsel had four hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Corey Chamberlain added two hits, three RBIs and three runs scored, while Connor Oakes delivered two hits, including a double, and crossed the plate four times.

Kyle Glass added two hits while Canaan Burket doubled in the victory.

Chamberlain earned the victory on the mound. He struck out four. Glass pitched two innings in relief and struck out five.

Mo Valley 13, C-K 9

The Bulldogs were unable to overcome a 9-0 deficit during their 13-9 loss to visiting Moshannon Valley on April 2.

Moshannon Valley led 9-0 after two innings, but C-K climbed to within 10-6 after four innings. Each team scored three runs in the seventh inning.

Parker Dibert paced the Bulldogs with three RBIs. Driving in two runs each were Connor Oakes and Dominic Francona. Oakes, Corey Chamberlain and Zach McCarty each scored twice.

BG 4, C-K 1

In a first-round Curve Classic game on April 4 at Peoples Natural Gas Field, Altoona, Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic held C-K to five hits during a 4-1 victory.

After BG scored single runs in the second and third innings, C-K made it 2-1 in the top of the sixth inning. BG then scored twice in the bottom half to set the final score.

Canaan Burket had two hits, including a triple, and scored C-K’s lone run. Parker Dibert added two hits for the Bulldogs.

Corey Chamberlain took the loss on the mound. He hield eight hits, struck out four and walked one in the complete-game performance.

C-K 7, JV 6

In a consolation game of the Curve Classic on April 7 at PNG Field, the Bulldogs scored three runs in the seventh inning to rally past Juniata Valley 7-6.

The Green Hornets led 3-0 and 6-4 lead before C-K’s late-game heroics.

Kyle Glass had two hits and two RBIs for C-K, while Canaan Burket also had two hits.

Dominic Francona pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Glass to get the win. He struck out two. Glass struck out four and walked three.
