Multiple Winners Lift CHS Track, Field Teams

The Central Dragon boys’ track and field team registered its first win of the season on April 2, nosing out Mountain League opponent Bald Eagle Area 76-74.

The homestanding Dragons were led by WT Davis and Colby Liebal. Davis took gold in the 1600 (5:12.18), 800 (2:20.66) and high jump (5-4). Liebal swept the sprints, taking the 100 (12.15) and the 200 (24.28). Liebal and Davis also joined Parker Gregg and Josh Biesinger to take first place in the 4x400 relay race.

Freshman Spencer Horton won the 110-meter hurdles in 18.98, while Mason Baker took the 300 hurdles in 9.53. Josh Biesinger finished first in the 400-meter run with a time of 57.09.

In field events, Zack Parks had a leap of 18 feet in the long jump and Tyson Daughenbaugh threw the shot put 35-1.75 to win the event.

“We won 11 of the 18 events and we also had some solid second- and third-place finishes,” Central coach Kayla Wheland said. “This was a nice team victory for the boys. Both WT and Colby had exceptional days, but again we got contributions from many of our team members.”

Girls’ Track and Field

Sophomore Alyssa Bartley won three individual events in the Lady Dragons’ track and field meet against Bald Eagle Area on April 2, but Central came up short in the final score 85-63.

Bartley was victorious in the 100-meter sprint (13.56), 400-meter run (1:08.31) and 200-meter sprint (28.81). Junior Emma Lingenfelter was a double winner, taking the 800-meter run (2:46.99) and winning the triple jump (29-1). Junior Lauren Crilly crossed the finish line first in the 1600-meter run (6:58.06), while freshman Leah Decker (13-3) won the long jump. In pole vault action, sophomore Ellen Kennedy won with a distance of 9 feet.

“We have an extremely young group of girls who are improving daily,” Central coach Kayla Wheland said. “We won eight of the 15 individual events. BEA took all three relays and their overall depth helped them to win the meet.

“I’m pleased with our work ethic and expect improvement each week.”
