Bedford County Promotion Seeks Dairy Promoters

It is time again for the planning of the Bedford County Dairy Princess Pageant.

The committee is looking for girls between the ages of 9 and 24 who would be interested in an experience to promote Dairy Products and also travel through out Bedford County and the state.

Qualifications for entering the dairy princess contest are to live in Bedford County; be a daughter of one of the following: dairy farmer, dairy-farm manager or herdsman or someone employed in a dairy-related industry (dairy farm store, dairy cooperative, DHIA supervisor, dairy feed supplier, veterinarian, milk inspector, milk hauler); be at least 16 years of age by July 1; and not reach her 24th birthday by Dec. 31.

If under 18, contestants must have parents’ consent, be single, never married, have no children and must not marry during her reign. Contestants must present a wholesome and healthy appearance.

Qualifications for dairy maid are as follows: must be 13 to 16 years of age; and may qualify by being the daughter, granddaughter, niece or sister of a dairy farmer, dairy-farm manager, or someone employed full time in a dairy-related industry such as a hoof trimmer, dairy grain supplier, raise dairy replacements, milk inspector, milk hauler and dairy cooperative employee. Many also qualify through ownership of dairy cattle.

The committee is also seeking dairy miss candidates, ages 9 to 12.

The pageant will be scheduled for May. A tea will be held in April to meet candidates and complete applications.
