Park Honors Service

Herald of April 25, 2009

Two Morrisons Cove Memorial Park board presidents from the 1960s were honored during the 2009 Celebration Dinner held at the Ken and Gladys Weaver Banquet Facility on April 18.

Honored and thanked for their service were Rex W. Hershberger, who was president in 1960, and Stanley G. Ormsby, who was president in 1967. Mr. Hersherger was present and accepted his award. Mr. Ormsby was unable to be present and his award was accepted by his son, Nate Ormsby, who currently serves on the board.

Current park board President Luanne Eckenrode noted that the descendents of the two presidents are still active in helping the park and are serving on the board: Ormsby and Dan Hershberger.

Mrs. Eckenrode said that although the park is facing “tough times and still needs help,” the dedication shown by those in the community, such as Ormsby and Hershberger families, are what will see it through.

“We remain optimistic,” she said. “Remember how the past has touched you.”
