Lady Pirates 4-4 On Softball Field

Williamsburg lost two of three during the past week in high school softball action.

The Lady Pirates were 4-4 through their first eight games.

West Branch 2, WHS 1

At Williamsburg on April 16, West Branch earned a 2-1 victory.

Runs in the third and seventh gave West Branch a 2-0 lead. Williamsburg scored once in the home half of the seventh to set the final score.

Ashley Brubaker (double) and Morgan Webb each had two of the Lady Pirates’ five hits. Desiree Kyle drove in Brubaker with the team’s only run.

Emily Frederick fanned nine in the loss.

Glendale 4, WHS 3

At home against Glendale on April 17, Williamsburg lost another one-run game, 4-3.

Glendale scored three runs in the top of the first, followed by two runs for Williamsburg in the bottom half of the inning. Each team scored once in the seventh.

Emily Frederick homered, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice for the Lady Pirates.

Frederick struck out seven in the loss.

WHS 4, B-A 2

At home on April 18 against Bellwood-Antis, the Lady Pirates broke a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win.

After Bellwood-Antis scored once in the top of the fourth, WHS answered with three runs in the home half of the frame. Each team scored once in the sixth.

Williamsburg managed just three hits in the victory. Morgan Webb hit a home run and scored twice, while Emily Frederick doubled and scored once. Marissa Harclerode drove in two runs.

Frederick fanned 13 batters, allowed four hits and walked two.
