More Than 100 Spectators Enjoy Plow Days

The Southern Cove Power Reunion Association held its annual Spring Plow Days & Tractor Show on Saturday, April 27, near New Enterprise.

The event had been postponed on April 20 because of rain.

Approximately 150 people participated in the event with their tractors. There were more than 100 spectators enjoying the event from the bleachers. Fields were plowed and the men demonstrated the use of two pieces of equipment in the sawmill to make boards.

This year a 1969 Ford, 8-speed tractor, blue and gray in color, will be raffled off. Tickets can be purchase at each tractor pull event. The drawing will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15. Admission is free to events and food is available for purchase at a reasonable price.

Roy Kegg from Manns Choice, the main announcer for the Southern Cove Power Reunion Association, had two of his own tractors in the pull. One was a 1959 Ford 981 Diesel Select-O-Speed, automatic transmission. He pulls this tractor in the 500-pound weight class. He also showed a 1959 Ford 961 gas, 5-speed transmission tractor.

One of the audience favorites for the night was a pick-up truck driven by Kenny Stone of Williamsburg. Stone used a 903 Cummins motor in a Ford 150 Chase fueled by diesel to do a pull. He delighted the audience with a full pull, which is 320-plus feet.

Shows will be held May 18, June 15, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 13 (antique pull), Sept. 14 (farm and open stock pull) and Oct. 5. All pulls weigh in at 3PM, pull at 4PM unless otherwise specified.

New members are welcomed and needed. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month. Board members meet at 6 p.m. and club members meet at 7 p.m.
