First Commencement Held

The first commencement of the Martinsburg Public School was held on May 1 at the Martinsburg Methodist Episcopal Church, with a graduating class consisting of five women and two men. All the graduates had an active role in the exercises. They were Myrtle Brown, Lola Deford, Clyde Chaplin, Emma Magaree, Alverda Lykens, Percy Snowberger and Margaret Nicodemus. Most gave speeches or recited poems. Miss Magaree sang a solo, accompanied by the school orchestra.
