Park Nets $10,000

Morrisons Cove Memorial Park raised $10,000 for the park’s building fund at the 11th annual Celebration Dinner on April 30. Paulette Woomer, park administrator, said 138 friends of the park gathered to support the park and hear guest speaker Samuel E. Hayes, former state assemblyman of Tyrone RD 1. Also during the dinner, Emma Jane Hinton, president of the Martinsburg Civic Club, presented the park with a check for $1,171 for the building fund. A second check for $1,000 was presented by Rex and Dorothy Hershberger. The money is to be used to upgrade Hershberger Memorial Swimming Pool. A third check for $1,000 was given to the park following the dinner. The donor was George Wineland, and the money is to go to the building fund.

The Rev. Walter B. Martin of Meadville RD has been named pastor of the Hickory Bottom Charge of the United Church of Christ. The parish consists of three congregations – St. John’s UCC, Loysburg; Mount Pleasant UCC, Martinsburg RD 1; and St. John’s UCC, East Sharpsburg.
