House on Fire By Bonnie Kistler

Could you forgive your daughter's killer, even if he was your son? Leigh Huyett, a divorce lawyer, knows all too well that many second marriages are doomed to fail. Yet five years in, she and Peter Conley couldn't be happier with their blended family.

One rainy Friday night, on the way back from celebrating their anniversary, Peter and Leigh receive horrific news. Peter's son Kip, a high school senior, has crashed his truck and has been arrested for drunk driving. Leigh's 14-year-old daughter, Chrissy, was in the truck with him.

Twelve hours later, Chrissy is dead and Kip is charged with manslaughter. Reeling with grief, Leigh does her best to rally behind Peter and Kip. Kip then suddenly changes his story and claims he wasn't driving after all – Chrissy was, and he swears there was a witness.

Leigh is stunned that he would lie about such a thing. Peter clutches on to the story as the last best hope to save his son. As they move toward Kip's trial date, husband and wife are torn between loyalty to their children and to each other. No one should ever have to decide whether to be a parent first or a spouse. If Peter and Leigh were the parents of the same shared children, these problems would never have come up.

Will their marriage survive or will this tragedy destroy their family? The mystery of what really happened that night will have you hooked and keeping you reading to the shocking and thought provoking conclusion.
