Uzelac Gymnastics, which has facilities in Duncansville and Johnstown, has announced that three gymnasts will represent Pennsylvania on the national level.

Ellen Kennedy of East Freedom and Malia Prebish of Lilly are attending the Level 9 Junior Olympic Eastern Championships from May 9 through May 12 in Kissimmee, Florida.

Amy Stewart of Johnstown will attend the Junior Olympic National Championship on May 18 and May 19 in Indianapolis for Level 10.

"This has been my dream since I was a little girl – to make it to Nationals!" said Ellen Kennedy, 16, the daughter of Doug and Heather Kennedy of East Freedom.

Kennedy, with a little help from her older sister, taught herself gymnastics doing back-handsprings since age 3. She started gymnastics at age 8 as a Garver YMCA gymnast with Rod Feather and by age 12 moved to a USAG gym and qualified for the State Level Competition every year since becoming a team gymnast. Her favorite event is the balance beam.

Kennedy is a second-year Region 7 Championship qualifier out of States, this year placing third on vault and fifth AA at the Level 9 State Championship. At Region 7 Championship in Virginia Beach, Virginia, she scored second on beam and vault and seventh AA qualifying her for Nationals. She was an alternate to the Level 9 Junior Olympic Eastern National Championship in 2018.

In addition to gymnastics, Kennedy is a sophomore at Central High School in Martinsburg, where she is on the track and field team as a pole vaulter and runner.

Kennedy recently broke Central's 10-year pole vaulting record, and the following week, broke that record.

She is an honor student, member of The National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society, Student Advisor Officer for the FFA program, and participates on her school's public speaking team where she recently advanced to the South Central FFA Public Speaking Regional Competition.
