PENNY JEAN (BURKET) BECK

Penny J. Beck, 59, of Altoona, formerly of Roaring Spring, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, May 8, 2019, at UPMC Altoona.

The immediate family will hold a private viewing at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., http://www.thompsonfh.com, Roaring Spring. A graveside memorial service was held on Wednesday, May 15, at Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring. Pastor Suzanne Detterline officiated.

Penny was born on Feb. 19, 1960, in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Carl G. and A. JoAnn (Oakes) Burket.

Surviving is her loving partner Terry Brown of Altoona; children: Stacy (Eric) Cornelius of James Creek, Justin (Lovella) Detterline of Saudi Arabia and Tyler G. Beck of Roaring Spring; five grandchildren: Parker Cornelius, Ellie Grace Cornelius, Lyndy Duke, Jack Duke and Juliette Detterline, along with one grandson on the way. She is also survived by six siblings: Joseph Burket of Wisconsin, Chris Burket of North Carolina, Trudy Rutkowski of Pittsburgh, Diane Brumbaugh of Curryville, Polly Burket of Arizona and Molly Shirk of Loysburg; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Penny is a 1978 graduate of Northern Bedford High School, Loysburg.

She was employed by General Cable for many years before its closing and went on to continue her education, graduating with honors in 2018 from South Hills Business school with a specialized associate degree in administrative medical assistant.

Penny loved the outdoors. She loved walking and traveling to various locations to enjoy nature. She really enjoyed the adventure of exploring new places that she'd never seen before.

She was also very fond of reading, puzzles and word finds.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Penny's memory may be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
