Roaring Spring Boy Scouts Troop 57 and Martinsburg Boy Scouts Troop 358 recently were recognized for their efforts in support of Veterans.

President Sarah Kriebel, national president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Auxiliary, awarded Boy Scouts Troops 57 and 358 "In recognition of Your Youth Group Supporting Our Veterans during the 2018 -2019 year."

Both Boy Scouts Troops assisted the Auxiliary of the D. Merle Tipton Post 43 VFW with the annual flag retirement ceremony which was held last fall. Scout members assisted with the planning and participation in the retirement of flags that were determined to be unusable. Throughout the year, the scouts collect and receive unusable flags to be burned at the next retirement ceremony.

In her letter to the Scouts, President Kriebel lauded the Scouts for their recognition of the importance of supporting our veterans and participating in programs that show respect and honor to America's most treasured living symbol, the American Flag.

The national president was made aware of the Boy Scouts efforts through reporting by the local Auxiliary of annual programs and events.

"The Post 43 Auxiliary is most appreciative to the Boy Scouts for their help with the flag retirement ceremony," President Anna Klepser said. "The Scouts always respond favorably and enthusiastically when we ask for their help with any project in support of our Veterans. The community should be very proud of our area scout troops."
