Factory Needs Workers

Herald of May 22, 1969

The need for at least 50 more employees at the Martinsburg Shoe Factory was emphasized by Vincent J. Renda, plant manager for the shoe company, at the dinner meeting of the Martinsburg Booster Association. Mr. Renda pointed out that the shoe company is prospering and has a heavy backlog of orders but urgently needs more employees to meet its present production schedules. The present plant force is close to 500, and the company is by far the largest employer in Martinsburg.

Don Snyder of East Freedom won the spirited race for the Republican nomination for Sheriff of Blair County. He polled 7,737 votes to 6,636 for Frank L. Stonebraker, 2,685 for John J. Hennaman and 211 for Joseph Paul Gurekovich. Denver K. Ake of Martinsburg RD2 topped a field of six for the Republican nomination for Justice of the Peace in Blair County’s Eighth Magisterial district. The unofficial count showed: Ake 599, Charles W. McGee 497, R. Willis Wineland 475, Chauncey A. Claar 442, Paul R. Lindsey 235 and Logan E. Stiffler 59.
