Hollidaysburg Police Investigating Abuse of Turtle

Hollidaysburg Borough Police are investigating a case of animal abuse after a video showing what appeared to be two teenagers torturing and killing a turtle surfaced over the weekend.

The incident, which happened near a pond at a golf course in Hollidaysburg, shows the teens picking up the turtle by the tail before throwing it on the ground and stomping on it.

Police became aware of the incident after the video was posted on Facebook and went “viral,” meaning it was shared throughout the social media site and viewed numerous times.

Once police became aware of the video and alleged actions, an investigation was launched to identify the teens responsible.

Comments posted to Facebook groups where the video was shared shows emotions over the incident are running high, with many people condemning the teen’s actions and calling for their arrest. Some viewers even identified the teens involved as well as their families.

In a statement posted to the Hollidaysburg Borough Police Department’s Facebook page, police acknowledged the outrage the video as sparked, but asked people to let them handle the matter.

“Our investigating officer has been tirelessly working on this case and upon completion the individuals responsible will be charged accordingly pursuant to Pennsylvania law. With that being said, we are aware of the mixed emotions caused by this incident and are asking that you please refrain from contacting any of the individuals or members of their family.”
