Power Line Going Up

Herald of May 28, 1969

The conductor cables being stretched along the power line right-of-way through Morrisons Cove will transmit electrical power from a new mine-mouth generating station near Johnstown to the Atlantic seaboard. The high voltage line is being stretched into place by approximately 60 employees of T. F. Jackson, Inc., of Long Island, N. Y. A large number of the employees are residing in the Morrisons Cove area. In all, six two-inch cables plus two smaller wires are being hoisted to the steel towers.

The Morrisons Cove Herald won three Keystone Press Awards Saturday at the Pennsylvania Press Conference at State College. Two Herald photographers won prizes and former Herald publisher, Blair M. Bice, won an award for writing. A first place award went to Miss Sharon Diethrich of Roaring Spring, Herald News Reporter and photographer, for a picture she took of a hapkido demonstration. A second place award went to John Leitis for a picture of his daughter, Tammie, placing flowers at a veterans grave.
