Remembering Chad

Herald of June 4, 2009

The war in iraq has hit home in the Cove. Chad A. Edmundson, 20, of Williamsburg, was killed by an improvised explosive device attack on May 27, in Abu Ghraib, Iraq. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, Chad was on dismounted foot patrol with the Iraqi Army when a bomb detonated, injuring Chad and 19 others, including three soldiers. He later died at the 10th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad. Chad was a 2008 graduate of Williamsburg High School.

Martinsburg Borough Manager Randy Stotlz reported “bad news” regarding and earlier “good news” report of a $100,000 grant for the community’s nitrate removal project. The Martinsburg Municipal Authority announced at its May 21 meeting that it would receive the grant through the Growing Greener Environmental Initiative. Mr. Stoltz has been notified that while Martinsburg is eligible for the funds, the “state has already spent them.” Mr. Stoltz admitted that he can’t understand how money set aside for projects can be used elsewhere.
