Wind, Rain Damaging

Herald of June 5, 1969

The combination of wind and heavy rain Monday evening caused some damage, but few complaints were heard as the storm brought relief from the usually dry conditions that have prevailed throughout the spring. The flight service station at the Blair County Airport reported rainfall of 1.67 inches. Most of that fell during the one-hour period from 5:30 to 6:30 o’clock, although there was light rain for several hours longer. The heavy rainfall dampened telephone cables and caused short circuits, putting approximately 100 customers in the Martinsburg area out of service.

The Cove’s biggest event of the year will be bigger than ever this year. This is the 50th anniversary year for the Morrisons Cove Memorial Picnic. The week-long picnic will be held June 30 through July 5 at Memorial Park, Martinsburg. The selection of the junior and senior Miss Morrisons Cove is scheduled for July 1 and 2. A special attraction this year will be the dedication of the new Little League ballfield by the D. Merl Tipton Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
