Loysburg Bridge Named in Honor of Vietnam Vet

The Vietnam War began in 1955, when Darrell Magruder, of New Enterprise, was just 11 years old. A little over 10 years later, Magruder would lose his life fighting in that same war.

In mid-April 1966, Magruder, a Lance Cpl. with the United States Marines, was on patrol with his unit in Da Nang, clearing the roads of landmines. One fateful step detonated a buried mine, sending shrapnel through the young Marine, causing serious injuries.
