BETTY LOU LONG

Betty Lou (Shaw) Long, 93, a resident at Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of Roaring Spring, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday morning, May 29, 2019, at the home.

A funeral was held on Saturday, June 1, at Bare Memorial Church of God. Pastors Dave Williams and Rachel Neely-Pletcher officiated.

Interment was made in Holsinger cemetery, Bakers Summit.

Betty was born on March 23, 1926, in Roaring Spring, the daughter of the late Raymond E. and Ada B. (Foor) Shaw.

She married Max H. Long on Sept. 4, 1948. He preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1980.

Betty is survived by four children: Michael Long and wife Elizabeth of Huntingdon, Stephen Long and wife Amy of Newville, Scott Long and wife Patricia of Spring Mills and Amy Jo Smith and husband David of Martinsburg; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Long of Martinsburg; and 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Long, who died in 2016; and three sisters: Phyllis Smith, Delores Williams and Nancy Jean Shaw.

Betty thoroughly enjoyed the large family get-togethers as well as every visit by one of the kids or grandkids to share a home-cooked meal or cup of coffee around her kitchen table.

Betty was a lifelong member of Bare Memorial Church of God, and cherished the many years when both her parents and children would fill the pew on Sunday mornings.

Betty Lou loved reading, playing the piano, volunteering for her community, and she especially loved spending time with her family.

Contributions in Betty Lou's memory may be given to the Bare Memorial Church of God Max H. Long Camp Fund, 508 E. Main St., Roaring Spring, PA 16673.
