PRR Issues Train Run Cuts

Herald of June 7, 1894

The Pennsylvania Railroad issued a new train schedule that cut the number of runs between the Cove area and Altoona. Only one train was scheduled to stop in Henrietta and the Williamsburg area each day. Many local residents were upset by the cuts.

A large group of youths were arrested in Roaring Spring for carousing in the streets and disturbing the peace. The boys were arrested after several citizens complained about the noise. Each boy was fined several dollars.

A service on June 9 was planned for the laying of the cornerstone at the Lutheran church of Martinsburg.

Roads throughout central Pennsylvania, including the turnpike through the Cove, were reported to be in poor condition because of heavy spring rains.

Henry Patterson, an employee at the Martin Miller farm, had a finger badly lacerated in a work accident. After examining the injury, Dr. Royer determined that the finger needed to be amputated. The patient was reported to be doing well following surgery.
