Field Nearly Finished

Herald of June 12, 1969

Work on the Gary D. Frye Memorial Field, a regulation Little League field at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park, Martinsburg, is nearing completion. The field is ready for use now and workmen are completing construction of pre-stressed concrete bleachers and a white stone masonry water fountain. Rodger S. Hoover, chairman of the project which is sponsored by the D. Merl Tipton Post 43 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, stated that the field will be dedicated on July 4 during the annual Morrisons Cove Memorial Picnic celebration.

A dry summer could leave Martinsburg with a severe water shortage in spite of the fact that two wells with more than adequate capacity have been drilled by the borough. The two wells were drilled two years ago but have not yet been tapped into the borough’s water system. At a meeting of Borough Council, Mayor David M. Wareham inquired how long it would take to hook up one of the wells to the water system if a water shortage should cause an emergency situation in the borough this summer.
