Local Scouts Collect Paper

August 8, 2019

Herald of August10,1944

Pennsylvania is said to be falling behind in the salvaging of paper for use of the war department in supplying the needs of our armed forces and the citizens are asked to make a greater effort to get out everything in the line of paper, cardboard, magazines, cartons, corrugated paper, etc., to bring up the salvaged stock to something near the demand. In Martinsburg the Boy Scouts are planning another salvage drive scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 19, and hope to have the full cooperation of all citizens of the borough and surrounding community.

The temporary indebtedness of Martinsburg borough has been wiped out as a result of action taken Monday evening by council who ordered that a loan certificate of $2,000 be paid. In years past from time to time loans had been made, largely from individuals, and certificates of indebtedness given, the certificates drawing interest. The money was used for one purpose or another. At one time the temporary indebtedness had reach $8,000. Earlier council paid off a $1,000 water bond.
