RS Library Marks 50 Years
Herald of Aug. 13, 2009
The Roaring Spring Community Library–repainted, recarpeted, redecorated–dazzled Saturday, Aug. 8, for its grand opening. The occasion marked the 50th anniversary of the free, public library’s founding in the community. It also marked the conclusion of many months of cleaning and restoration following January’s internal “disaster” when pipes froze and burst, damaging wall coverings, carpet and some equipment. Fred Hetrick, president of the library’s board of trustees, welcomed those attending the noon ribbon cutting on the library porch. The library is housed in the former Eldon Inn on E. Main Street.
It was a Shaw-Smith show when the Holsteins were featured in the ring Thursday, Aug. 6, the third day of judging at the Morrisons Cove Dairy Show at Memorial Park. Rebecca Shaw of Linden-Loch Farm, Williamsburg, and Jenna Smith of Smith Hollow Farms, Martinsburg, had the grand and reserve grand Holstein champions, respectively. “Becca’s” two-year-old, however, claimed supreme champion honors of all breeds.
