Observed annually across the nation on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. In Duncansville, families from across Blair County enjoy a summer evening outside at the Antique Depot each August for Blair County Night Out Against Crime. The evening of Aug. 6 began with a traditional emergency responders parade along Third Avenue. Blair County Sheriff James Ott led the parade to the Antique Depot. In the Depot parking lot were a myriad of motorcycles, antique cars on display for their annual car show, with fire engines, ambulances, police vehicles and crime fighting units. Miranda Wagner and her son, Zander Moudy, age 7, of Duncansville came for their first time. Zander wanted to come down and see all the cops and nice bikes and cars. His favorite part of the 1955 Chrysler C300 he was voting for was the shiny chrome bumper. Zander is going into second grade this fall. Blair County Sheriff Deputy Alwine was talking to children and their parents about staying safe. The sheriff's department fingerprinting table drew a large crowd, waiting in line to get their children fingerprinted. The Knab family of Hollidaysburg was among them. Oldest son, Ryan Knab went first, followed by Ayden and then sister Mea, while mom, Sarah, watched. Hearing about the event on the radio spurred them to attend for their first time at the Blair County Night Out Against Crime event. Other booths included BC Adult Parole and Probation, BC Juvenile Justice, Pyramid Healthcare, plus TAP United (The Addict's Parents United) who help parents and families find hope and support by working with each other. Next were the Committee to Prevent DUI and Underage drinking, Suicide Prevention, then Family Services, which was focusing on breaking the silence and ending domestic abuse. BC Youth and Family, PA Game Commission, BC Veteran's Honor Guard, along with the American Rescue Workers all had information to distribute. Finally, ABATE (Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education) of PA stressing protecting all motorcycles rights along with Guardians of the Children were all talking to attendees with motorcycles parked nearby. Along with the booths and car show were emergency vehicles on display plus a variety of food, including a large donut truck. A fireworks display concluded the evening.
