The Blair County Junior Livestock Sale went well Tuesday evening at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park, according to Brian Glick, auctioneer, despite a bad national economy.

Mr. Glick said he thought the crowd attending the sale was about the same in size as in past years, and more importantly, those attending were buying. Glick has been calling the sale for about six years, and assisted his uncle at the sale for about five years before that.

In comparing Tuesday’s sale of market animals to recent sales at the Huntingdon and Mifflin county fairs, he found that the market goats sold quite a bit higher at Martinsburg and that the lambs and hogs also sold really well.

“Overall, there’s not a lot of difference here than at the sale in Huntingdon County,” he said.

Mr. Glick thought that the number of animals brought to the sale was lower than last year, particularly the market hogs and steers. Fewer numbers, he said, can account for higher prices. The auction started at 5:30 p.m. and lasted until 9:30.
