New Hospital Wing Started

August 22, 2019

Herald of Aug. 21, 1969

Construction has begun on the addition to the Nason Hospital.

Contracts were signed last week with the low bidders after their bids had been approved by the State Department of Public Welfare.

The general construction will be done by Cove Structural Systems, Inc., of Martinsburg. Cove Structural began excavating work at the hospital Friday.

Richard Nicodemus, president of Cove Structural, and the other low bidders signed contracts listing their bid figures, but with the agreement that certain adjustments would be negotiated later to reduce the overall cost of the new wing alterations to existing parts of the hospital.

The low bids totaled $925,115. This is $175,000 more than had been estimated by the architects, Campbell, Rea, Hayes and Large of Altoona, before the bids were opened in June. The low bids were approved by the Public Welfare Department, which means the project qualifies for approximately $200,000 in Hill-Burton Act funds channelled through the federal government.
